The Awakening of Humanity and the Birth of a Parish Collaboration

M.e J., originally from southern Lebanon, was involved in providing medical assistance Together with her husband M. in the region of Saida. Their first steps in this work brought them a deep sense of inner freedom, peace, and joy—feelings that also touched the lives of those they encountered.

As they focused on medical aid, their eyes were opened to the wounds and suffering of people around them—people they might not have noticed before. Faced with the vast scale of needs, M.e and M. took the initiative to collaborate more closely with the vicars of their parish. They soon realized that many cases of illness and difficult humanitarian situations in the region could not be addressed by medical aid alone.

In their village, which has two churches, they met with both vicars to discuss how to expand their support. Together, they established a single shared fund to cover expenses related to medical assistance, illnesses, and surgical operations.

Through this collaboration, they began to experience what they saw as the work of Divine Providence in critical situations. For instance, when a man needed $200 for medical treatment and the fund was empty, M. affirmed their trust that God would provide. Immediately after Mass, a man approached the priest and donated exactly $200 for those in need—a “hundredfold” that covered the treatment.

In another case, two uninsured individuals in the village required surgical operations costing around $2,000—a sum that seemed nearly impossible to obtain. Then, a contact from America, unaware of the needed amount, arrived in Lebanon and brought exactly $2,000—the precise sum required for the surgeries.

M. emphasized that this initiative has created not only material assistance, but also healthy social and family relationships, along with a pure trust and love with the families being helped. M.e added that the role of medical aid, which sparked this movement, continues to open them more and more to humanity, teaching them to take the first step and trust God to take care of the rest.
